  • Nova

Female | Australian Shepherd Mix | 6 yrs

    No young children, No cats

Nova is back from her foster adventure! We learned that she really will do best with only one human in the house and being the only pet. She still needs slow introductions even when in her new home. She had great manners without accidents in her foster home and was not destructive so she would not need to be kenneled when left home alone. Please ask questions and we’d be happy to get you in touch with her former foster dad if you want to get to know her more!

Our longest term resident! Nova was brought in with a male dog and a puppy in 2022, though she remains. Being in the shelter for so long has made her reactive and sassy, therefore she requires a slow introduction. For most new introductions we muzzle her to keep everyone safe. Once she is comfortable with you, she is very affectionate. We call her “Our Princess.”
She does not get along with female dogs but has shown little to no aggression towards male dogs. Give her some time, you’ll love her as much as we do!
    Nova weighs around 30 pounds.

  • Peyton

    Male | Lab/St. Bernard/German Shepherd | 7 yrs

    Careful with children, Some Dogs

Peyton came to us on 12/29/25. He’s a big, bouncy, and kind of naughty boy! He’s got the most handsome bark and would do nearly anything for food or treats! He’s very excitable but is following commands. Peyton has unfortunately used his teeth in ways he’s not supposed to, but does know sit, stay, and shake! Peyton loves small stuffed toys, car rides, chewable treats, bones, and snuggles. He’s a drooly man who will cover you and his favorite things in slobber!
    Peyton weighs 85 pounds.

  • Chase

    Male | Pitbull Mix | 1 year

    Some dogs, Careful with children

This cute little man came to us for Christmas! Based on his behavior, we’re quite sure he was born and raised in a kennel setting, therefore, he does well in a kennel. We’re working on commands, he knows “sit,” and “down.” He is quite loud and a little protective of his space, so slow introductions are best. It may take a couple of interactions to win him over, but once you do, he won’t get out of your lap!
    For a pup, he’s a hefty 50 pounds!

  • Lilac

    Female | Coohound Mix | Born 8/5/2022

No young kids(12+) no cats, some dogs

This pretty lady came to us on 4/7/2026. She is a great dog who is just a bit particular . She’s not a big fan of some people (some men, some elderly) and does not get along with all dogs in a household setting. Lilac has been to doggy daycare in Rapid City at Meadowridge Pet Lodge, and gets along with dogs in a neutral setting. She has some separation anxiety and can be a bit destructive when left home alone, though she hasn’t shown any destructive behavior spending nights with one of our employees. She is not a fan of small children. If you have further question regarding Lilac, please reach out through our email. Lilac weighs around 50 lbs.

  • Gus

    Male | Lab Mix | ~8 years

So far, Gus seems to like everyone and everything

Gus was brought to us as a stray on 4/24/26. No one came for this sweet old man. We aren’t sure how he feels about cats (seems like he’s hunting them but might just be curious) yet seems fine with his neighboring dogs. He’s very sweet and well-mannered, though he likes to jump up on you when he’s excited! We aren’t sure of his age - his face says 10 but the vet guesses 8 years. regardless of age, Gus gets around great! He jumps into cars, runs to his kennels, pulls our dog walkers around, and digs to his hearts’ content! Gus weighs about 74 lbs.

  • Cutlass

    Male | Heeler/Doberman Mix | Born 3/8/23

No cats, no male dogs, no small kids(12+)

Cutlass came to us on 4/30/26 after his owner passed away. He does not like cats or male dogs, though he doesn’t seem to mind female dogs. We think he would do better with older kids, a fenced yard, and/or living with someone who is very active! Cutlass has a lot energy to burn and absolutely loves the water! He’s a lake or creek playing dog for sure. Cutlass is a little finicky upon new introductions, but once he warms up, he’s a real hambone. We invite you to come visit him and see if you could be his next best friend! Cutlass is 50 lbs.

  • Gertie Mae

    Female | Akbash | ~3 years

So far, Gertie seems to get along with everyone and everything

Gertie Mae joined us on 5/2/26 and has adjusted well! She’s a big lap dog whose only flaw is food aggression. We’ve noticed it mostly towards other dogs, so separate feeding areas would be required in a multi-dog home. (Best to keep human hands away for safety as well.) She does like to bark and alert her family of anything out of the ordinary, keeping true to her breed! Gertie is also a tricky nail trimmer, she does not like her feet being touched! She has lived with other dogs, cats, and kids.
    Gertie weighs around 80 lbs.

  • Maverick

    Male | Husky/Mix | <2 years old

    Careful with kids, no cats

Maverick came to us on 4/28/26 as a stray that was never picked up. Maverick is true to the husky breed, high-energy but very sweet. He does want to play a little rough but he’s young! We think a home with a yard and someone(s) to play with would be great for him to burn off all the extra energy! He is a big fan of tug-of-war and tearing up fluffy toys! We aren’t sure how he does with other dogs outside of our kennels, but welcome a meet-and-greet!
    Maverick weighs 49 lbs.

  • Guster

    Male | Shepherd Mix | Born 2025

No cats, some dogs, great with kids

Guster (formally Junior) is back with us after not fitting in with his family. They gave it a go but he did not get along with the family cat and did not care for one of the family members who owns their own dogs outside of their house. Unfortunately, it did end with a bite. Guster is a squeaker-removing champion, a lover of hard squeaking toys, and a bit of a fence jumper. He does very well with younger kids and would do best as the only pet, but we can facilitate a meet-and-greet with another dog to see if they get along. Guster weighs 40 lbs.

  • Scooter

    Male | Shih-Tzu/Maltese Mix | 6 years old

Due to disability, cannot do stairs, though seems to get along with other animals

    Rabies scheduled for 5.27.26

Scooter came to us on 5/21/26 after his owner couldn’t physically continue to care for him. Other than needing a bath and his nails trimmed, he appears happy and pain free! Scooter has two deformed front legs so he “scoots” around. He has not been to our vet yet and is not yet up-to-date on his vaccinations. He uses the bathroom just fine, but cannot do stairs and too much exercise can be a bit much for his front legs. Being able to carry him is required. He needs a patient and able owner to help him get around. He is used to regular baths but needs shallow water or he risks drowning. Scooter seems to like other dogs and kids! We don’t think he’d mind cats either.
    Scooter weighs about 15 pounds

  • Akasha

    Female | Shepherd/Heeler/Husky Mix | Born 4/17/23

    Spay scheduled for 5.27.26

No cats, careful with kids, some dogs

Akasha and her “sister,” Harlequinn, are with us after not being able to return home. They are sweet girls that get along with each other but don’t seem to be a big fan of other dogs and would probably chase cats if given the chance. Akasha seems a bit more willing to meet other dogs. We know they are both playful and enjoy human companionship.
    Akasha weighs 42 pounds

  • Zeus

Male | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Born 2/9/2024

    Rabies scheduled for 5/27/26

Good with cats, dogs, and children

Zeus came to us with his brother, Cerberus, on 5/22/26 after his owner had a major surgery and could not care for the high energy pups anymore. Zeus and his brother are friendly and they’ve been around children and cats. They don’t seem too bothered by other dogs but a meet-and-greet with potential adopters required! These brothers get along great, but are not bonded, so they can be adopted together or separately.
